Fancy Comma, LLC Newsletter readers, amidst all the chaos of trying to work two jobs while running Fancy Comma, as well as traveling to Washington, DC to advocate for health policy reform, I managed to find the time to record a quick audio note for this month’s newsletter on September 9. I hope you enjoy this update.
Regardless of our level of busyness, we can never be too burdened to be kind to ourselves and others. I recently interviewed Cate Denial, PhD, author of A Pedagogy of Kindness, and now I am convinced that my next season will involve being more kind to all those around me, for the sake of my friendships, my students, and our collective brains and physical and mental health. Check out my discussion with Cate here. You can also check out our book review of A Pedagogy of Kindness, which we highly recommend reading!
What else we’ve been working on this month:
Sheeva helped develop a media literacy lesson plan with Aspen Digital of the Aspen Institute.
She’s also been busy trying out her new video editing skills! Check out her failed attempt to create a YouTube short about #ScientistsForHarris, as well as our video about Sheeva’s new research directions studying journalist PTSD, and a vlog about Sheeva’s trip to Arizona to volunteer at and attend the Harris-Walz rally in Phoenix.
On the marketing side, we’ve blogged about reasons to hire a scientifically-trained biotech copywriter, and benefits of biotech white papers.
We published a guest blog from Science at Risk, an organization dedicated to supporting Ukrainian scientists, about why scientists can be a key diplomatic channel in the Russia-Ukraine war.
We’ve also talked about education a lot this month, including a discussion of why you should use our SciComm curriculum and lectures.
That’s all for this month’s newsletter! Thanks for reading and listening. If you liked this newsletter, please share it!
